It was Georges Hermann Mumm, who bequeathed his initials, who created this emblematic cuvee. In 1876, to honor his prestigious customers, he decided to adorn the bottle with a red silk ribbon, the sign of the Royal Order of Saint-Louis and then of the Grand Cordon of the Legion of Honor. A favorite of sovereigns, the red cordon became so famous that it came to embody the symbol of the brand. As the cellar master explains: "A signature of the House, this cuvée demands that we perpetuate its style: the subtle balance between freshness and intensity." Indeed, the originalitý of the Mumm vineyard is reflected in the blend of this cuvée: predominance of Pinot noir, strong presence of Chardonnay and a touch of Meunier. To complete the blend and ensure consistency of style, the Chef de Caves integrates 25-30% reserve wines, to bring complexitý into the final blend while giving it greater breadth.
