The winemaker

The Pithon-Paillé estate was born from the determination of an Anjou winemaker

.
The creation of Domaine Pithon-Paillé was the result of a crazy project. Jo Pithon bought a few parcels of land and gave himself five years to clear them before cultivating them in chenin. In 2008, he began producing his own wine, and it didn't take him long to make a name for himself. He was surrounded by his wife and children, who were all part of the adventure. However, in 2018, he reached the end of his career and his children decided not to take over the business. It was Ivan Massonnat, a passionate Parisian, who bought the estate and realized his dream. Accompanied by Jo Pithon, he produces a wine steeped in the terroir.

The Château is now called Belargus, in tribute to a rare cuvée produced by the former owner. It's also the name of a small blue butterfly found on the Côteau de Treilles. The winemaker has thus found a way to give fragile nature the importance it deserves in wine production.

The Pithon-Paillé estate and its favorite grape variety: Chenin

Jo Pithon and Ivan Massonnat's techniques respect the soil and the ecosystem. This has earned the estate organic farming certification. Chenin is the king grape variety here. It has the particularity of adapting to different terroirs and expressing its richness. The grape gives voice to the earth through the beverage. Situated to the east of the Armorican Massif, the terroir features a variety of schist, spilite and Carboniferous pudding soils.

The authentic wines of Domaine Pithon-Paillé are produced biodynamically

.
Ivan Massonnat seeks to express simplicity and peasant authenticity in his cuvées. The domaine produces five Chenin wines. The appellations covered by the land are Anjou, Savennières, Coteaux du Layon and Quarts de Chaume. Recently, a valuable 3-hectare parcel was added to the estate. It is located on the Clos des Ruchères, a highly sought-after terroir. The estate produces mainly chenins, but also red wines in cabernet franc and grolleau.
