In a few words ...

In 1992, Thierry Germain, originally from Bordeaux, bought the Domaine des Roches Neuves in Varrains. Dating back to 1850, the estate now covers 22 hectares in the saumur appellation for white wine and saumur champigny for red wine. It took the spirited Girondin 20 years to adapt to the mildness of the Anjou climate. He undertook the conversion of the estate to organic and biodynamic viticulture, and succeeded in placing himself among the top wines of the appellation. Thierry Germain produces his cuvées in a modern style, with the emphasis on respect for the terroir. The grapes are harvested when perfectly ripe, and the wines are aged in wood in a variety of barrel formats to achieve diabolical precision. Located in dampierre sur loire, thierry germain's "clos de l'echelier" is a parcel with very little soil (30 to 50 cm) before the rock. This wine has a bright red color with violet highlights. The nose is elegant, with fruity aromas of cherry and strawberry. The palate is full-bodied and fat, with great elegance. A great red wine at the pinnacle of the appellation, with excellent ageing potential.
