South-West

France

From the banks of the Garonne to the Lot Valley and Toulouse, the South-West is simultaneously rocked by the mild humidity of the Atlantic and shaken by the rigours of the Pyrenean climate for kilometres at a stretch. It has taken some time for the region to earn itself a place on the French winemaking map, no doubt because of the strong reputation of neighbouring Bordeaux, but today it is a real contender. It primarily produces strong, distinguished reds, but there are also dry or sweet whites that perfectly match the region's cuisine, as well as some delicate rosés. The South-West's wine estates are particularly remarkable for their stunning scenery, to be endlessly discovered along the Camino de Santiago or in the footsteps of Cyrano de Bergerac.
