Armagnac

Armagnac is a white wine brandy distilled in a column still of the Armagnac type. It is then aged in French oak barrels for a minimum of one year. Produced on an area of 5000 hectares, the vines are spread over three regional appellations: Bas Armagnac, Haut Armagnac and Armagnac-Ténarèze. In Bas Armagnac, the brandies produced are very famous, they are light and fruity. In the Haut Armagnac, the brandies are rather lively and can be drunk young. In the Ténarèze, the brandies are generally harder and require a long time in cask to be better appreciated. There are two styles of Armagnac: The blend which are brandies classified according to their age: three-star armagnac (or VS), XO armagnac (extra old) and the age mentions, where the age of the youngest brandy is indicated (15, 21, 30 years...). Vintage Armagnacs are made from a single year's harvest. In addition, producers will regularly specify the date of bottling, in addition to the year of the harvest. In order to indicate the total duration of aging of their brandy.
