Iconic Reds of Burgundy

Albert Bichot

Very limited stock

Over the past 10 years, Albert Bichot has been voted the world's best winemaker three times by the International Wine Challenge!

Rooted in Burgundy since the 14th century, Maison Bichot is one of only two family-owned houses left in Beaune. They have been producing their own wines for nearly 200 years, building a veritable empire in Burgundy with exceptional terroirs covering more than 10 grands crus.

Today, Maison Bichot is considered a benchmark Burgundy house; they are regularly named the world's best winemaker and their wines have won countless awards.

We are pleased to present three iconic reds from Maison Bichot:

Their well-structured 2017 Pommard is a favourite with most cheeses, as well as game meats. The 2017 Côte de Nuits-Villages is less tannic and pairs well with a duck terrine or eggs meurette. Our favourite of the moment is the Chambolle Musigny 2019, feminine and delicate, perfect with foie gras, brillat-savarin and venison.

The wine of kings

Eastern treasures

In 1703, the Prince of Transylvania gave Louis XIV several bottles of wine.

Gold like the sun and sweet like nectar, Louis XIV declared that this was the king of wines and wine of kings. It became a royal favourite throughout Europe.

Hundreds of years later, this wine is still produced in the oldest classified wine region in the world, Tokaj, Hungary.

From November until the first snowfall, Furmint grapes are harvested by hand. Encrusted by a special rot known as botrytis, the grapes are crushed to obtain a very sweet paste. This paste is added, basket after basket ("puttonyos" in Hungarian), to dry white wine made from the same grapes. The number of puttonyos (3 to 6) determines the sugar content of Tokaj Aszú. It is then stored in oak barrels placed in large passages dug in the rock.

FUNDACIO : "Always a terrific value", "The quality-price ratio here is off the charts"
"The energetic Jean Marc Lafage and his enologist wife Eliane continue to turn out a bevy of great values from their extensive holdings across Roussillon."
(Parker Wine Advocate)

The Lafage Estate is a family property that dates back to 1798. Its vineyards stretch from the shores of the Mediterranean to the foothills of the Pyrenees in the heart of Roussillon. It is divided into three distinct terroirs that represent the nuances of the Roussillon soils.

The Lafages have been winegrowers for over two centuries. Before taking over the family estate, Jean-Marc Lafage and his wife Éliane studied oenology and participated in harvesting and vinification in Australia, California, Latin America and South Africa.

When the Durance River withdrew from Eyguières, the sediments that were once carried to the sea became anchored in the soil. This is why this hollow in the Alpilles massif produces grapes worthy of Olympus.

Vallon des Glauges cultivates a plethora of grape varieties (twelve varieties). With so much genetic heritage, it is not surprising that the domain produces excellent wines.

In just a few years, Jeff Carrel, described as an "eclectic winemaker", has made his mark with wines that are "as surprising as they are pleasing" (Bettane & Desseauve). His original brands have made a name for themselves, such as "Les Darons" and "La Vieille Mule". He attaches great importance to respecting the environment in each of his wines, whether they come from his wine estate or from his local partner winegrowers.
