The winemaker

The name Jansz honors the namesake of Tasmania, the Dutch explorer Abel Janszoon Tasman discovered the island for the first time in 1642. In fact, when it was created in 1975, Jansz vineyard was named after Tasman's ship, the Heemskerk. In 1986, the prestigious champagne house Louis Roederer joins owners Heemskerk Wines to produce the first sparkling wine vintage premium Tasmanian. They saw similarities between the climate here and the famous wine region of their homeland. In 1997, Hill-Smith family bought the vineyard and began the journey that has seen Jansz Tasmania become the home of sparkling wine the most famous in Australia.
