Chateau de Carbonnieux covers 92 hectares of vines, planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot for the reds, and 65% Sauvignon and 35% Semillon for the whites.
The communes of Pessac belong to the large Graves production area. The poor, gravelly soil nurtures very delicate, full-bodied and fruity wines.
a magnificent aromatic intensity.
the 1988 vintage is a classic vintage with an advantage to the right bank. Some Pomerols and Saint Emilions eclipsed their younger counterparts of 1989 and 1990 in elegance. The red wines were very tannic, very colorful, very complex. These are long-ageing wines, which can be expected to develop a fine, powerful bouquet as they age.
Appearance
The wines have a dense but lighter robe than the medoc. The hue is ruby with a touch ranging from purple to brick depending on the evolution.
Aroma
The bouquet is often fruity, with currant and other red and black fruits to which are added smoked or roasted notes.

Taste
Composed on average of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, the red wines of Pessac-Léognan make a good compromise between marked tannins and the greediness of the fruit. We thus find red and ripe fruits, and empyreumatic notes.
