Condrieu's vocation as a winegrower dates back to Roman times. As early as the 15th century, Condrieu wine was so highly regarded that it was offered to noble personalities and graced celebrations. Condrieu was granted A.O.C Locale status in 1940, and Viognier, a grape variety that remained local until the end of the 19th century, is now acclaimed the world over. Some of the grapes used to make Condrieu Maison Bouachon come from the valley known as "Les Tourrays". Legend has it that the origin of this name dates back to the 19th century, when the echoes of the potter's wheel could still be heard echoing through the vineyards on the steep slopes of this valley.

The appellation Condrieu is part of the region of Vallée du Rhône from France which include Maison Bouachon and its 11 cuvées. Spread over The Rhone Valley and its rich, complex terroirs. The region is divided into two distinct subregions: Northern Rhone (known as Rhône Septentrional) and Southern Rhone (Rhône Méridional). In the former we find strong wines in beautiful colours with warm, spicy notes, produced by vineyards that stretch 4,700 ha along the Rhone. The latter, with an area of 71,000 ha, is much more important, and this is evident of course in its annual production of red, rosé and white wines quite unlike those of the Northern Rhone., this region is 3 million hectolitres per year of red wines, rosés, dry and sparkling white wines, and natural sweet wine..
