Chianti is the most famous Italian wine in the world. In the 1960s, its wines were low-end, table wines. With the evolution of Tuscan winemaking legislation, Chianti wines have greatly improved in quality and offer excellent value for money. The grape variety is Sangiovese.
The 1962 vintage is a great vintage that unfortunately struggled to live up to its 1961 predecessor. The wines, very pleasant in their youth, had great ageing potential. The off-season was favorable for Sauternes and other sweet wines.
