In a few words ...

Graves is the only appellation in France to take its name from its soil type. Brownish in color, this soil of pebbles, stones and coarse gravel is rich in iron oxide. Protected by the Landes forest, its geographical location shelters it from storms and drought, thanks to its proximity to the Garonne River. Red fruit aromas dominate. Red wines are elegant.
The mild winter of 2001 was followed by a rainy July. The vintage was late, with harvests lasting until mid-October. The diversity of this vintage makes it necessary to be selective in terms of estates. The St Emilions and Pessac Léognans are perfect. The Bordeaux sweet wines are exceptional.
