Infos sur le terroir: the one-hectare monopole is located near the Grand Cru Hengst, and is the only clos in Alsace planted with 100% Pinot Noir. It is divided into three parts. The upper part is composed of pink Vosges sandstone, variegated sandstone and calcareous sandstone. In the middle are fine-grained grey shell limestone and yellow Jura rock, while the lower part is a mixture of Vosges sandstone and white and pink quartz. The vines were planted between 1998 and 2002. ageing: the grapes were transformed into wine more on the principle of infusion than extraction. Fermentation took place spontaneously in vats with 30% whole grapes, followed by 17 months in barrels (10% new, 50% one-year-old and 40% two-year-old). Malolactic fermentation in spring, no fining. purplish-red overcast with purple highlights. 2018 pinot noir 'clos de la faille' presents an intense, earthy and original aroma. First, the scent of leather, truffle, cigar, forest foliage, cedar, wood smoke and noble dark chocolate wafts from the glass. After prolonged opening, fruity aromas of blackberries, black cherries and prunes follow, complemented by fine spices such as cinnamon, juniper and freshly ground white pepper. Freshness is enhanced by pronounced herbaceous notes of thyme and wild mint, a multi-faceted fragrance. on the palate, it's elegant and juicy. Its stimulating Pinot acidity is underpinned by intense minerality and wonderfully integrated into the seductively sweet fruit.
