Candale Castle: a history dating back to the English aristocracy

Château de Candale is linked to Lady Marguerite de Suffolk Kandall, descendant of Edward III, King of England and Duke of Aquitaine. By marrying Count Jean de Foix, the lady enabled him to become Count of Candale. Even then, the wines of the Saint-Émilion fiefdom were renowned for their great delicacy, which met the strict criteria of the Jurade de Saint-Émilion. In 2010, the Domaine de Candale was managed by Jean-Louis Vicard. Seven years later, Thibaut and Magali Decoster have taken over the running of the estate, ensuring that the Château's history and tradition continue. The estate's wines are classified as AOC Saint-Émilion Grand Cru. This appellation itself comprises two sub-categories: "Grand Cru classé" wines and "Premier Grand Cru classé" bottles. The geographical areas of Saint-Émilion and Saint-Émilion Grand Cru overlap. Both appellations are marked by undeniable quality, combining suppleness, power and finesse.

Château de Candale: a totally mastered viticultural practice

The elegance of Château de Candale wines is linked to the diversity and richness of the vineyard plots. Spread over almost 10 hectares, the vines flourish on sandy and sandy-clay soils. Located at the foot of the slopes, these soils give the vines excellent exposure to wind and sun. The majority of grape varieties are Merlot (84%), Cabernet Franc (14%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (2%). The average age of the vines is 30 years, and to maintain them, winegrowers use traditional techniques that have proved their worth. The subsoil, for example, is ploughed and worked deep into the soil. From the oenologist's point of view, this allows the roots to reach deep into the soil, which is what gives the terroir its richness. The grapes are harvested by hand, and the wine is aged in wooden or stainless steel barrels, with 50% new barrels. This meticulous care results in a style of wine that is as delicious as it is charming.

Chateau de Candale wines: a sublime collection for every occasion

In the selection of the best Château de Candale wines, the 2014 vintage stands out for its delicately fruity character and round, graceful tannins. It offers a fruity, generous aroma, with notes of red fruit. The following year's vintage was awarded a gold medal at the Bordeaux competition: it is classified as a red Grand Cru and is designed for ageing, although it is already very drinkable. Château de Candale also produces a 2010 vintage considered "aristocratic" for its highly expressive bouquet and elegant, intense color.
