The History of the Château de Lavagnac

Château de Lavagnac is owned by the Rivière family, which has been running wineries in the Bordeaux region since 1875. Today, it manages 8 estates. The family's motto is to cultivate the vines with respect for the terroir.
Jean-Pierre and Philippe Rivière, for 30 years at the head of the company, have been working to make wines of character that highlight the soil of Bordeaux, so conducive to the cultivation of the vine.
The Château de Lavagnac is a former fortress, dating from the 15th century. The residence, framed by two majestic towers, is enthroned in the middle of its 20 hectares of vines in one piece.

The vineyard of Château de Lavagnac

The vineyard of Château de Lavagnac extends over a predominantly clay and sandy soil. The grape varieties are Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The domain is managed in reasoned viticulture, with a manual deleafing and green harvests. The vineyard, made up of a single block, is cultivated with an economy of synthetic products, in order to favor natural methods to protect the vines against the aggressions of parasites.
Since the 2000 vintage, the Bordeaux Supérieur of Château de Lavagnac is aged in new barrels for half of the production. It remains six months in barrel. Fermentation lasts an average of three weeks, with three to four daily pump-overs to achieve a good extraction of tannins.

The wines of Château de Lavagnac

Chateau de Lavagnac - AOC Bordeaux Supérieur red

Château de Lavagnac's AOC Bordeaux Supérieur wine is made from a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.
It is a wine of great finesse with a deep red color. The nose is marked by ripe red fruits. Spicy notes enhance the aromas, also gleaning touches of vanilla and delicate wood.
The attack in mouth is supple. The flavors are balanced, very fruity and very fresh. The tannins are fine and silky.
The Château de Lavagnac Bordeaux Supérieur works wonderfully alongside grilled red meats, as well as the most varied cheese platters.

Chateau de Lavagnac Bordeaux Rosé

Chateau de Lavagnac Bordeaux Rosé is made from equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
It has a clear and brilliant color, displaying a very frank pink color. The nose is full of fresh fruit flavors. We find in mouth its wide aromatic palette. The wine is round and light.
Château de Lavagnac Bordeaux Rosé is the wine of the summer which is used for the aperitif and for your barbecues in the garden. It goes deliciously with salads, tapas, fish and shellfish, as well as grilled meats of all kinds.
