The winemaker

In the hands of the great Bordeaux families in respect of values

Since the acquisition of the estate by Pierre de Malleret, equerry to King Louis XIV in 1593, the property has passed through the hands of various Bordeaux families all driven by the quest for wine-making excellence. However, it was during the 18th century, when Vincent Février purchased Château de Malleret, that it took the path to becoming the estate we know today. He enlarged the estate and modernized the outbuildings in order to enrich the heritage of the house. In 1860, the reins of the estate passed into the hands of Philippe-Frédéric Clossmann, whose descendants continue to perpetuate its prosperity today. Today, the Château de Malleret is a large family property with a well established reputation. Its castle is surrounded by a large park and 57 hectares of vines which are the source of the house's wines. Finally, as previously mentioned, the estate also owes its fame to its equine tradition. Indeed, it was for a long time a stud farm with a European influence because of the breeding activity of dressage horses which was developed there. Many of these horses were winners of competitions.

A Cru Bourgeois as close as possible to its terroir

A member of the Crus Bourgeois of the Haut-Médoc appellation, Château de Malleret indeed benefits from a privileged environment for the elaboration of high quality wines. Its major asset lies in the division of its estate into three parcels that offer a great diversity of terroirs thanks to the different geologies. 2013 marked a real turning point in the cultivation of the vineyard due to the arrival of Paul Bordes at the head of the estate. He initiated a real upheaval by introducing practices oriented towards the protection of the environment. The use of organic products in the vineyard is now the norm and the development of biodiversity in the heart of the vines is encouraged in order to provide the plant with all the elements necessary for the proper maturation of the fruit. These more respectful methods allow the house to elaborate wines that better reflect the typicity of their terroir and guarantee their quality.

Exceptional wines hailed by critics

The wines of the house, mostly vinified in red based on Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, are deep and elegant wines that have not failed to tickle the critics. Indeed, Château de Malleret enjoys an important notoriety that regularly appears in the press, accompanied by laudatory comments. The wide range of nuances offered by its vintages have recently earned it a score of 95 out of 100 from the magazine Terre de Vins.
