Château De Villambis

5
(1 customer reviews)
The Château de Villambis, established in the 18th century, takes its Latin name from "Villa Ambis Viis", the villa at the crossroads of two roads. The Adapei de la Gironde reconstituted the wine-producing property in 1982, thus offering to disabled people a job in a highly qualitative activity, anchored in the history of the Médoc region; these jobs being the support of apprenticeships, allowing their social and professional integration. The history of the estate

The castle of Villambis is given in the eighteenth century and takes its name from the Latin "Villa ambis viis" (the villa at the crossroads of the two voices), particularly attested by the presence of a Gallo-Roman fountain. The estate developed for two centuries, and in 1932, the Château de Villambis was classified as a Cru Bourgeois, which allowed it to gain visibility and recognition.

In 1954, following a change of ownership, the estate took on a social dimension with the reception and accommodation of children until 1978. This vocation takes a more important scale, with the repurchase of the domain by the Adapei in 1979 and the installation of a Center of Help by Work, which accompanies handicapped workers.

It was only in 1982 that the wine estate was reconstituted and resumed its former wine-making activities. Since then, the property, in the Haut Médoc appellation, renews its Cru Bourgeois distinction every year.

The terroir

The property covers 18 hectares, including 15 hectares in production, located 10km from Pauillac and 50km from Bordeaux.

The terroir of the vineyard is composed of Pyrenean gravel and sand. The whole rests on a subsoil of limestone cracked with clay. The assembly of these soils is typically Medoc and explains the finesse of the wines produced there. Similarly, these soils are planted according to the traditions of the Medoc: 61% Merlot and 39% Cabernet Sauvignon. Since 2018, Petit Verdot has also been introduced into the vineyard to bring complexity to these fine and balanced wines.

The wines

The Cru Bourgeois classified cuvée, Château de Villambis stands out with an elegant nose as well as a generous fruitiness. The whole is accompanied by the roundness of Merlot as well as the finesse and balance drawn from the soils of the terroir. This wine will perfectly accompany a nice piece of rare beef accompanied by a potato gratin.

The second wine, aost de Villambis, is also a blend of Cabernet-Sauvignon and Merlot. It has a bright garnet color and a very fresh nose. It has spicy and fruity aromas that ensure a nice greediness. On the palate, the wine is well balanced, between fruity and fleshy. Ideal with a sunny barbecue in summer.
