The winemaker
Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are the two that come to equal share in the composition of each vintage. The soil is sand and gravel to a depth of approximately one meter and the subsoil consists of a deep horizon clay. This combination forms a land suited to the quality of vine cultivation. Indeed surface soil, poor in mineral elements allows slow growth of the vine, while the basement ensures a regular water supply. The vineyard average age is 27 years. Planting densities range from 10,000 plants / ha (spacing between the feet and the ranks of 1 meter) to the oldest vineyards 6,600 vines / ha (spacing between the feet 1 meter and row spacing of 1.5 meter) for new plantations. The Castle of Raux is a family business passed from generation to generation since 1879 A.O.C. Haut-Médoc.
