The winemaker

Château La Forêt Noire is built on the remains of a Late Roman villa. As early as the 3rd and 4th centuries, the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa were discovered in the property's vineyards. A similar villa existed on the site of the former church of Saint-Jean d'Anzas, 2 km to the south. The property has two semi-buried vaulted cellars. Formerly above-ground, they constituted vast storerooms for living, stretching along the entire length of the building. Under one of the towers, probably originally a keep, the guard room dates back to the 15th century. Part of the parish of La Reyre, it was supposed to protect the parish. The château belonged to the De Busseroles family from the end of the 15th to the 18th century. At that time, the De Létan family became owners. They modified the building's appearance, notably the doors, windows and fireplaces and fireplaces, while retaining the Renaissance features.
