The winemaker

It would be futile to seek the era in which we can trace the "origins" of the Castle Larteau. Certainly its privileged position on the edge of the Dordogne has been noticed and exploited long ago. The Larteau wine adventure thus starts at the end of the 18th century. The property management is then provided by Francis Belcier, Knight, Lord of Crain, Baron of Ares, whose family probably owned this land since the 17th century. Important work is done on the dependencies of the property in the 1770s, the origin of the current cellar barrels seems to date back to 1776. Under the leadership of a large family of Libourne traders, Beylot who acquires the property in 1778, the castle will experience heyday, with a peak of notoriety in the years 1900.Première wine acquisition of this dynasty of merchants, they keep for nearly two centuries as a symbol of their empire. In 1903, the property was inherited by the Lacaze family who owned it until 1967 and will follow two other families. In early 2007, Jean-Pierre Angliviel La Beaumelle bought the property and thus realizes his passion for wine. He comes from a family of Bordeaux merchants, Mestrezat, Swiss merchants who settled in Bordeaux in the nineteenth century and founded the eponymous company in 1814.Après several years in the United States with an American merchant, he led from 1970 and for 30 years the family business owner at the time of several Crus in 1855 (Châteaux de Rayne Vigneau and Grand Puy Ducasse) and Crus Bourgeois (Lamothe Bergeron, Marsac Séguineau, Blaignan ...). He is a member of the Commanderie du Bontemps du Medoc and Graves, Sauternes and Barsac. The field integrally extends on 16 hectares including 12 vines grown in the edge of Dordogne. These 12 hectares, the average age is 20 years, are planted exclusively with merlot. Planting density of 5,500 vines per hectare. The terroir of clay on deep bass is ideal pourrévéler silky fabric and scale of the great Merlots. Cultural methods are classic and neat: mechanical tillage and weed, and all green work necessary to obtain perfectly ripe grapes (budding, thinning, leaf removal, green harvest).
