Domaine Bonabaud lies on the borders of the Blaye, Bourg and Fronsac wine appellations. The vineyards form a series of small, contiguous plots surrounded by forests, rivers and meadows. Situated on the ancient banks of the Nézéreau river, the vineyard benefits from a predominantly Tertiary alluvial soil that gives the Domaine's wines great finesse and recognized character. The winemaker

The history of this wine estate, nestled in the heart of the great Côtes-de-Bordeaux region, began in the early 20th century. It was in 1919, after the war, that Mr. Emile Bertaud founded Château Gauthier. A passionate worker, he elevated his estate to the rank of "1er Cru de Bordeaux" within a few years. Many years later, in 2017, it is the story of a meeting, almost an evidence, that occurs between Fabien Bonabaud and Château Gauthier. After living abroad for many years, Fabien Bonabaud found in this vineyard his ideal place to produce wine as he had always imagined it. He defines it simply: "Earthy but expressive, natural but refined, accessible but original". With Château Gauthier it is, for him, a dream come true. He created Domaine Bonabaud, which brings together the vineyard and its preserved environment of river, forest and pastures. Particularly sensitive to environmental issues, Fabien Bonabaud runs his vineyard in an integrated and meticulous ecological perspective. This approach is certified by the High Environmental Value label. "As winegrowers, we see ourselves as simple guardians of our terroir, responsible for ensuring that the conditions are in place for the next generation to perpetuate French winegrowing traditions."
