The winemaker

AN AUTHENTIC, FAMILY-RUN ESTATE Since 1969, our small, family-run 7-hectare estate in the heart of the Médoc vineyards has been producing wines based on traditional, reasoned and sensible vine-growing and winemaking practices. Respecting tradition, authenticity and sincerity, the fourth generation of the Cazenave family is now inventing and creating wines for you that are like us, wines to share in all simplicity. Our wines follow nature's rhythm, which makes them unique and authentic. THE HERITAGE OF CRAFTSMANSHIP From its vats to its stone and clay walls, the house retains the simplicity of centuries gone by, and the mark of its craftsman, Philippe Cazenave, who remained with the estate until the 2008 harvest. Today, his granddaughter, Aure, carries on the family tradition and know-how, happily cultivating the vines and making wine with the same values of tradition and authenticity. Two cuvées are created to meet your every expectation: Cuvée Prestige: is aged in stave-wood oak barrels for 12 to 14 months. This ageing gives it a discreet, subtle spicy note in balance with the wines' natural bouquet and fruitiness. La cuvée Traditionnelle: in the making of this cuvée, the quest for terroir expression and pure fruit tannins are the watchwords. This is why the wine is aged exclusively in vats, with no wood added. Its aromas are very fruity, fine and delicate. A VINEYARD AT THE HEART OF AN EXCEPTIONAL TERROIR Our vineyard lies at the heart of the Médoc terroir in the commune of Saint-Yzans-de-Médoc, between Saint Estephe and Saint Christoly. Overlooking the Gironde estuary, our property benefits from the region's microclimate, much appreciated by winegrowers. This oceanic climate cultivates the unique and inimitable taste of Medoc wines. The gravelly soils are particularly conducive to vine ripening, and the Gironde ensures constant irrigation and crop protection. BLENDING Our wines are based on blends of several grape varieties from different plots. Cepages are grape varieties. The base of the Médoc AOC is made up of three dominant grape varieties: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, to which Petit Verdot, Carmenère and Malbec are added. The grape varieties are grown and vinified separately, before being blended according to their qualities and taste characteristics. Blending produces three cuvées: Cuvée Prestige, Cuvée Traditionnelle and Vin de Negoce. OUR ECOLOGICAL COMMITMENT For the past ten years, we've been working to ensure that our vineyards are cultivated in a reasonable and sustainable manner: - Weed management: mechanical weeding and working the soil. - Phytosanitary products: we use natural products recommended for organic farming whenever possible, and our applications are systematically considered and adapted to environmental and climatic conditions. - Dry materials: we use recycled bottles, corks from FSC-labeled forests and lightweight cardboard. These actions are reinforced every year, with the aim of producing a wine that respects the environment and the health of our suppliers and consumers. This approach is part of the company's global policy, which includes waste management, energy savings (water, electricity, fuel), rational purchasing and the ongoing search for sustainable solutions for our operations. Since the 2018 vintage, the estate has been HVE3 certified.
