AOC Médoc covers a surface area of 5800 hectares. Its wines can be tannic in their youth and benefit from being kept for more than 5 years. Medocs are distinguished by their deep color, fruity bouquet and roundness. 1988 is a classic vintage, with an advantage for the Right Bank. Some Pomerols and Saint Emilions eclipsed their 1989 and 1990 predecessors in elegance. The red wines were very tannic, very colorful, very complex. These are long-ageing wines, which can be expected to develop a fine, powerful bouquet as they age.
