The winemaker

The black and white photos on the walls of the tasting room and the motto "la force de nos racines" (the strength of our roots) bear witness to the fact that family is a cardinal value here. Since 1692, when grandfather François Dubois planted his first vines, ten generations have written the family adventure. Set on the road to modernity in the 60s by Jean-Pierre and Nicole Dubois, the estate was given new impetus with the arrival of their son Laurent in 1993. Year after year, the acquisition of neighboring plots of land enabled the estate to become one of the largest winegrowing estates in the Blaye region. In a climate tempered by the nearby estuary, the 140-hectare vineyard occupies plateaux whose ideally exposed slopes receive the midday and sunset sun. The plots of land extend over the magnificent terroir of clay gravel, in the Blaye-Côtes de Bordeaux appellation. Before the wine, before the grapes, there's the land. Doing everything possible to respect the life of the soil and the family's formidable landscape heritage is vital. As early as the 90s, the estate installed a weather station to prevent risks and reduce interventions in the vineyard. It has remained a pioneer by multiplying environmental actions: washing area, grassing every other row, green manure in young vines, insect traps, installation of beehives, bat nests, etc. The HVE 3 environmental certification obtained from the 2017 harvest has rewarded decades of efforts. Château Les Bertrands wines undergo an ambitious ageing process. They are at once classic, intense and gourmet, respecting the natural character of their great terroir.
