The winemaker

The Domaine Colinot d'Irancy

The Colinot d'Irancy estate is located in the "Irancy" appellation area and the family has been active in the wine business for ten generations. Indeed, Léontine Colinot was the first woman in the family to work in the vineyard and in wine during the First World War.

Today, the estate covers 12 hectares of vines and gives pride of place to Pinot noir, which is present in 90% of the vineyard. Jean-Pierre, Léontine's grandson, and Anita have decided to practice integrated farming, with manual harvesting, in order to produce quality wines. The estate maintains the flame of the great terroirs of Irancy better than anyone else.

Indeed, the latter multiplies the plot-based vintages, notably in 2018. Jean-Pierre was elected "Winemaker of the Year" in Burgundy, by Jacques Dupond, in 1990.

The vineyard

This vineyard of almost 13 hectares is composed of young and old vines, all of which are cultivated with respect for the environment. But also with respect for the different climates that Burgundy offers.

The estate's vines grow on Kimmeridgian clay-limestone soils, the grapes are harvested by hand and the vinification is traditional. The legend of its appellation owes its fame to the very particular vinification that Thomas Carré practices on pinot noir.

Indeed, it is what allows to obtain a colour and a substance that no one can match. A reference for exploring the expressions of this beautiful appellation.

The winemaking

At Domaine Colinot d'Irancy, the grapes are harvested manually with traditional vinification. All the grapes are sent for maceration with punching down every day until the end of fermentation. It is after this operation that the press juice and the free-run juice are separated. The blend is made with the appropriate proportions of the two grape varieties and is elaborated in vats. The maturation will last between 9 and 12 months, before the wines are racked and filtered on alluvial soil. Then comes the bottling.

Jean-Pierre and Anita offer nine Irancy cuvées. The Pinot Noir is blended with a small percentage of César or vinified pure. It is then aged in oak barrels, like the Irancy Cuvée Soufflot. They also make a magnificent "Bourgogne Passe-tout-grain" to accompany meat in sauce and a wonderful Rosé for summer dishes.
