The winemaker

A family history


Since 1453, the Bersan family has been cultivating vines in the village of Saint-Bris-le-Vineux a few kilometers from Auxerre. A picturesque village, it has become a real tourist attraction ! The underground network connected to the cellars was once used for wine making but also for defense.

Heirs to a great lineage of winegrowers, Jean-François Bersan and his son, Pierre-Louis, are committed to perpetuating the tradition of their ancestors of respect for the product through respect for their terroirs.

Independent winemakers, both seek to infuse a new dynamic into the estate, integrating technological developments into the winemaking process to make the most of the potential of their vines and extract the best.

The Vineyard


Jean-François and Pierre-Louis cultivate an area of 13 hectares of white grape varieties and 7 hectares of red grape varieties.

The philosophy of the house lies in the development of the exceptional terroirs of Saint-Bris, the respect of nature and soils, the use of state-of-the-art technology to produce the best.

Jean-François and Pierre-Louis are committed to ensuring respect for the environment, modernity and authenticity. That is why they are committed to making their wines in the most natural way possible: the vineyard is conducted in reasoned control and organic farming. As of 2019, the estate is HVE certified.

The entire harvest is vinified in a modern winery and is subject to precise and meticulous work.

Once bottled, the wines are stored in the vaulted cellars dating from the 11th and 12th centuries located in the center of the village for aging.

From spring, the cellar is open to curious visitors where Jean-François and Pierre-Louis welcome them for a privileged and friendly moment.

The PL & JF Bersan wines


Assertive winemakers, the PL & JF Bersan estate offer a wide range of wines and spirits: Saint-Bris, Côtes d'Auxerre, Chablis, Chablis Premier Cru and Bourgogne Aligoté in white, Côtes d'Auxerre and Irancy in red, a Côte d'Auxerre rosé, a Crémant de Bourgogne but also 2 Ratafias and a Vieux Marc de Bourgogne.

The Bourgogne Côte d'Auxerre Cuvée Marianne in white is made from old Chardonnay vines is the result of a 100% aging in oak barrels for 12 months, fruity and woody, it reveals itself upon aeration.

The Cuvée Marianne in red reveals concentration and balance thanks to the work of natural yeasts and 12 months of aging in oak barrels.

We find in the white and red Côte d'Auxerre undeniable frankness and aromatic richness.

Mastery and care, this is what makes the finesse and richness of the wines of Domaine Bersan !
