The winemaker

The Luquet estate, a true family history through the centuries

To date, six generations have succeeded one another at Domaine Luquet. The adventure began in 1878 with Benoît Luquet, a local winegrower, and Jacques Rollin, the owner and harvester. They were followed by Jean and Maurice, who expanded the estate to include the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. They also began exporting.

Renée and Roger settled on the estate's then 5 hectares in 1966. They took the estate to new heights, developing three new appellations: Saint-Véran, Mâcon-Villages and Mâcon blanc. Christine, Renée and Roger's daughter, now owns the estate with her brother Patrick. They are supported by Christine's husband, Thierry Mathieu, and the new generation, Kevin and Loïc.

The Luquet estate covers seven appellations with specific characteristics

Building on its success, Domaine Luquet now covers 30 hectares of vines. They are mainly planted with Chardonnay grapes. The parcels are spread over a large area and cover 7 different appellations. The village of Fuissé, which gives its name to the appellation, is surrounded by hillside plots. The region's characteristic soil is rich in chalky clay, a quality soil for wines that stand out. The vineyards are mainly planted with Chardonnay. Red Burgundy is produced from Pinot Noir grapes. The wines produced at Domaine Luquet all have AOP status: Pouilly-Fuissé, Saint-Véran, Pouilly-Loché, Mâcon-Villages, Crémant de Bourgogne, Bourgogne Pinot Noir and Bourgogne Chardonnay.

The Domaine Luquet and its perfectly mastered wines

The estate's 7 appellations enable Domaine Luquet to offer a wide range of top-of-the-range wines. Their reputation is well established, and 60% of their bottles are exported. They produce a red Burgundy wine made from pinot noir grapes, and a sparkling Crémant de Bourgogne with a lively, clear-cut character. Then there are 5 of the most respected white wine appellations: Mâcon-Villages, Pouilly-Fuissé and Pouilly-Fuissé Premier Cru, Pouilly-Loche and Saint-Véran. The majority of these cuvées are 100% Chardonnay.

The plot for the Pouilly-Fuissé AOC wines enjoys excellent sunshine. The wines have aromas of almonds and roasted hazelnuts. For the Saint-Véran appellation, the vines benefit from full sunshine, resulting in fat, subtle, rich wines. In the Mâcon-Vilalges appellation, the vines are planted on slightly undulating, siliceous-clay soils, ideal for the Chardonnay grape. The wines are very intense.
