The history of the estate

Félicien Bauchet planted vines in Grauves on his mother's land and began his wine business in 1920, while working as a laborer and lumberjack to earn money. His three children, Raphaël, Roland and Gérard, developed their father's estate in the 1960s and built up the current property with 34 hectares of vineyards. They also created modern facilities in Bisseuil, to produce excellent champagnes using both the latest innovations and traditional ancestral methods. The estate thus benefits from the status of producer-harvester.
Nowadays, the estate is still managed by the family. At its head, we find Florence, Gérard's daughter, in charge of the commercial aspects and of all the communication. She shares the management of the company with Robin Bauchet, Roland's grandson, who manages the work of the vines on the whole estate. They are assisted by Bruno Charlemagne, the oenologist and winemaker in charge of maintaining the Bauchet champagne style. This teamwork helps develop the international reputation of the house's wines.

The winery

On a 34-hectare vineyard, the family cultivates two noble grape varieties typical of the Champagne region, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Seven terroirs make up the vineyard, we find on these lands in Côtes des Blancs, Côte des Bar and on the mountain of Reims, nine hectares classified as Premier Crus in Grauves and Bisseuil. These parcels are planted mainly with Chardonnay. The remaining 25 hectares on the Côte de Bar are mainly planted with Pinot Noir.
The estate is managed in integrated viticulture, with environmentally friendly practices, by a team of ten people. Each gesture is thought to adapt the work to the specific needs of each plot, according to its particularities in terms of exposure, subsoil or grape varieties. These efforts were rewarded in 2020 with the award of two certifications: High Environmental Value and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne. However, thoughts on virtuous agriculture are continuing, particularly with plantings aimed at establishing biodiversity zones.
All the cuvées are entirely made at the estate, from cultivation to harvesting, vinification and aging. The champagnes are blended and then aged at the estate in underground cellars for periods ranging from 2 to 8 years, depending on the cuvée. The property produces a volume of 250,000 bottles per year.

The champagnes

Bauchet champagnes offer a range of six cuvées, some of which have won prestigious awards.
This includes the cuvée Origine, blended with 60% Pinot noir and 40% Chardonnay from seven different Crus on the estate. It is an elegant, fresh, balanced and fruity champagne with gourmet floral notes. It has received multiple awards.
The cuvée Contraste Blanc de Pinot Noir - extra brut is a rich, generous champagne with beautiful ripeness and notes of pear, honey and quince.
The cuvée Signature Premier Cru is the iconic cuvée of Domaine Bauchet, often highlighted by wine merchants and experts. Made from 80% Chardonnay, blended with Pinot Noir, it offers fine bubbles and a beautiful golden color. It is a well-balanced, elegant and intense champagne, with an appetizing nose offering aromas of honey, candied citrus fruits, cooked peaches and almonds, reminiscent of sugarplums.
