The winemaker

The history of Lanson champagne

Champagne Lanson recently celebrated its 260th anniversary, making it one of the oldest Champagne houses. It was founded by François Delamotte in 1760 and subsequently taken over by his sons.

In 1828, the Delamottes joined forces with Jean-Baptiste Lanson, who took control of the house following the death of Nicolas-Louis Delamotte. He renamed it J-B Lanson et Compagnie.

In 1900, Lanson became the Royal Warrant of the English Court, a distinction offered by Queen Victoria and still valid today. He supplied other European courts, including that of Spain's King Alfonso XIII, as well as the courts of the Swedish kings Gustav V and then Gustav VI. Lanson was also one of the first to produce rosé champagne.

In 1975, Lanson champagne became the property of the Gardinier group. It then passed into the hands of BSN, the future Danone group, which undertook colossal works to refurbish and equip the winery and all the premises.

In 2006, the champagne house BCC (Boizel, Chanoine, Champagne) bought Lanson champagnes.

Lanson champagne grapes

Champagne Lanson cultivates its own 57 hectares, 16 of which are under organic and biodynamic viticulture. The rest of the grapes come from long-standing partners, enabling us to work with over 100 different crus, 50% of which are Grand Crus and Premier Crus.

The grapes used to make Lanson champagne are processed in the house's four historic presses. The plot-by-plot cuverie, dedicated to the diversity of our crus, and the wood-fired winery allow us to sublimate our reserve wines.
The blends can thus benefit from a great diversity of grapes, at the same time as prolonged aging.

Lanson champagne is unique in that it does not undergo malolactic fermentation. It is characterized by freshness, vitality and elegance.
