The History of the Torraccia Estate

The Domaine de Torraccia was created in 1964 by Christian Imbert, on an idyllic site north of Porto-Vecchio. While returning from Chad, he instantly fell in love with the Corsican setting, nestled within granite arenas.

Before planting his vines, Christian Imbert had to develop the soil conquered by the maquis. He also had to move or destroy rocks that prevented the planting of vines. His efforts bore fruit and he arrived at a total of 43 hectares of vines, only in noble plants, on granitic slopes facing south-east.

Christian Imbert decided to go against the grain of the fashion of the time. He concentrated on planting typically Corsican grape varieties and fought hard for the AOC of Corsica. In 1972, he founded the UVA Corse, which brings together the best wine makers of his region.

Since the creation of the Domaine de Torraccia, the soil was worked in the most natural way possible. No chemicals were ever used, which allows the Imbert family to guarantee wines that are all organically grown.

The Domaine de Torraccia also cultivates olive trees from which it markets its oil. In 2008, Christian's son, Marc Imbert, took over the farm to continue the work of his father.
