The Eagle Has Two Heads is historical nod, remembering the emblem of the Habsburgs. The Franche-Comté that belonged to the House of Austria from 1477 to 1678. Born in 2005 of a former polytechnic became winemaker with passion and local products, the Estate is one of those houses that bring acclaim to the vineyard Jura by providing meticulously crafted wines that are pure expression of the terroir. The winemaker
The history of the estate
The domain of the two-headed eagle pays tribute by its name to the emblem of the Habsburgs, who had ruled Franche-Comté from 1477 to 1678. This domain was created in 2005 in Vincelles, in the Jura, by Henri Le Roy. The latter dedicated himself to the wine business after scientific studies and a career in business.
Henri Le Roy had the idea, with his domain L'Aigle à Deux Têtes, to work the magnificent Alsatian terroir with Burgundian manners.
The terroir
The Domaine de l'Aigle à deux têtes has several parcels, all of which have the common denominator of having soils composed mainly of marl. A rock that gives fresh, mineral and richly flavored wines.
The "Derrière la Roche" parcel is characterized by marl soils, on which the Chardonnay shows red pampers and stalks.
The parcel "Les Clous" is made up of very rich marl soils, facing south. Over 100 years old, this parcel was partially replanted in 2008 and then 2017.
The wines
The Cuvée Griffez displays a bright yellow color and a nose of white flowers with floral notes. There is also a good buttery edge. On the palate, the wine is full and mineral, a typical Jura style.
The Cuvée Derrière la Roche offers a yellow gold color with green highlights. The nose reveals a bouquet of white-fleshed fruits, as well as floral notes. On the palate, the aromas are enchanting, and the round body delights the taste buds.
The Cuvée Les Clous - Naturé exudes a straw gold color and a nose between yellow fruits and a touch of butter. The mouth offers light notes of dried fruits and a beautiful minerality. Powerful and long.
