The history of the estate

The history of Château de Cazeneuve began in 1987 when the estate was bought and then restructured by André Leenhardt. It covers 45 hectares in the heart of the Pic Saint-Loup appellation, mostly in the commune of Laurent, in the Languedoc-Roussillon vineyard.

The Château de Cazeneuve is above all a family story. In an effort to perpetuate the family heritage and know-how, Quentin Leenhardt, the second generation at the head of the estate, produced his first vintage in 2010.

In this family spirit, ethics are of paramount importance. With the aim of producing Pic Saint-Loup wines with a strong identity every year, everything is put into shape, from the vineyard to the winery and bottling, to preserve the terroir and authenticity of the wines produced. The wines of the estate are thus entirely produced according to the methods of organic farming since 2006, and the entire estate is certified Ecocert since 2010.

The terroir

Typical of Languedoc-Roussillon and the Pic Saint-Loup appellation, the soils of Château de Cazeneuve are clay-limestone, exposed from full south to east, and up to north. There are three families of soils: hard limestone, clay-limestone scree, and soft limestone on marl.

Completely restructured since the 1990s, the vineyard produces exclusively in Pic Saint-Loup. In terms of grape varieties, we find Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault for the black grapes. The white vineyard will be composed of Roussanne, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc, Vermentino and Viognier.

In order to preserve the berries as best as possible and extract the most potential from them later on, the harvest is done exclusively by hand and the picking is done in crates or in small self-emptying inter-row bins. The grapes are then selected on the sorting table.

The wine

The wines produced express all the complexity and aromas of the Pic Saint-Loup wines of Languedoc-Roussillon.

Les Calcaires 2019 is a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan. On the nose with aromas of garrigue, sweet spices and red fruits, it offers an intense ruby red with hints of purple. In the mouth, the wine is round, gaining in fullness after aeration. Red fruits and spices are highlighted with fine and round tannins.
