Deprade Jorda

History

Despite a large area, it is only very recently that the domain as we know it was born: the creation dates from 1934. This period indeed marks a turning point in a domain that already existed before, but with a different operation. Before this birth, Thomas Deprade (great-grandfather of the current generation) owned about 20 hectares of vines which he took care of throughout the year.

But at that time, he had not created an independent estate, he worked in connection with a cooperative located in Argelès sur Mer. Everything went well in the 20th century until the beginning of the 21st century when the desire to take off was more and more present. It was in 1934 that he created the Deprade Jorda estate, thus leaving a structure that no longer seemed to suit his ambitions.

His ambitions were taken up by his son, Francis Deprade, who joined him and took over in the 1960s, and then Jacques (Thomas Deprade's grandson) and his wife Françoise added their stones to the edifice in the 1980s. The generations succeeded one another and passed on their passion for wine and the work of the vineyard. In 2006, Thomas, who represents the fourth generation of the family, took over the management of the estate, assisted by his brother François two years later. Together, they perpetuate the family tradition, while adding their touch...

An incomparable soil mosaic

Today, the two brothers manage an estate spread over several communes around Argelès, which now represents an area of 90 hectares. It is more precisely in the village of Argelès-sur-Mer that you can taste the wines of the domain in the cellar. Several vintages are to be discovered but especially several different styles of wines: Côtes Catalanes (red, rosé, white), Muscat sec, Muscat doux de Rivesaltes, Rivesaltes Ambré Hors d'Age... In short, a panoply leaving a wide choice and enlivening the taste buds of the finest tasters.

To produce all this variety of wine, 12 grape varieties are present on the estate. One finds in particular Syrah, Carignan, red Grenache, white Grenache, Muscat and many others... but all having a common point: cultivated on an atypical soil. It is indeed a mosaic of soils that are offered to the family to express the best of the property. Schist, clay, limestone, sand and silt are all present and allow the 12 grape varieties planted on the estate to flourish. More importantly, this also gives the two brothers, Thomas and François Deprade, the freedom to choose the best soil/grape combinations. These synergies, well thought out by our protagonists, result directly in superior quality grapes. A decision that has an influence on the future of the cellar...
