The winemaker

For many years, Jean-Michel Cazes, owner of Château Lynch-Bages in Pauillac, walked the roads of Languedoc in search of great terroirs. One day he discovers Siran, a village at the foot of the Black Mountain, home of the largest vineyards in the Minervois. In 2002, it bought two adjacent properties to be an area of 150 hectares, including 60 hectares of vines and 25 hectares of olive trees. With his son Jean-Charles, they choose a name with meaning and history, "the ostal" which in ancient Occitan language refers to both the house and the family group that inhabits it. The Domaine Cazes Ostal was born ... Immediately undertake technical teams, under the direction of Fabrice Darmaillacq and Daniel Llosa, a complete restructuring of the vineyard: massive uprooting, replanting grape varieties, soil drainage, etc. This comprehensive approach aims to express the full potential of local and larger Languedoc grape varieties: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan. The Cazes family bought in 2003 the tile St. Joseph, a magnificent building of the nineteenth century to house the technical installations of the property. The first bottling take place in 2004 (The Ostal Cazes Great Wine) and 2005 (The Ostal Cazes Estibals).
