The winemaker

A family heritage in the heart of the Languedoc

The Mas Laval estate is above all a family history. The estate is located in the heart of the Terrasses du Larzac appellation in the Languedoc wine region. Their vineyards extend over 35 hectares of an exceptional terroir, in a still wild nature of the Languedoc scrubland.

The vines are surrounded by the foothills of the Cévènnes and the Arboussas massif. A fabulous landscape quite beneficial to the culture of the vine. The terroir is subject to a Mediterranean climate allowing a perfect maturation of the grapes, slow and progressive.

In the vineyard and in the winery

Multiple grape varieties are grown by Mas Laval, these are the grape varieties traditionally found in the Languedoc wine region. Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Cinsult, Aramant, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Vermentino and Carignan.

Syrah and Grenache are grown on limestone soil covered with rolled pebbles on the prodhces reliefs of the Arboussas massif. The Mourvèdre is planted on the sandy clay terraces of the Larzac and Seranne rivers. Rigor and passion guide the family daily in the conduct of their vineyard.

In order to preserve the soil and the stumps of the various plots, they limit as much as possible the mechanical work in the vineyards. In addition, they obtained TERRAS VITIS certification in 2017 and are currently (in 2021) in organic conversion.

The vinification of their wine is done in a traditional way, they practice manual punching down and adapt the duration of their maceration according to the wine they want to produce and the vintage concerned. Each grape variety is aged individually between 8 and 24 months in barrels or foudre, the blending then takes place, the final wine is neither fined nor filtered.

The wines of the estate

Les Pampres Mas Laval red is a cuvée produced in IGP Pays d'Hérault. It is made from a blend of 55% Syrah, 20% Carignan, 15% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache. It is a fruity and greedy wine with an intense garnet color with purple reflections. On the nose and in the mouth, aromas of red and black fruits, notes of spices and licorice are mixed. It is the ideal companion for a grilled meat, a moussaka or a rack of lamb.

Les Pampres blanc is made from a blend of Chardonnay and white Grenache. Upon tasting, this wine presents subtle aromas of citrus, exotic fruits and some iodine touches. It is a wine full of freshness, tonic, with a frank and clear attack. Married with seafood, shellfish or fish, it will make sparks fly!

La Grande Cuvée from Mas Laval is produced in the Terrasses-du-Larzac appellation. This red wine is produced from Syrah, Grenache Noire and Mourvèdre. The aromas of guarrigues of thyme laurel dominate the aromatic palette. They are completed by intense notes of red fruits. The mouth is all in power, elegance and freshness. Game, rump steak and Provencal vegetables will be sublimated by this wine.
