The winemaker

The Story of Olivier Coste

Olivier Coste grew up in the vineyards of southern France. Fascinated by the terroir and landscapes of the Languedoc, as much as by wine making, he benefits from the ancestral know-how of his family.

Indeed, the Domaine Montrose, the family property, was founded in 1701 in Pézenas, by Jacques Alazard. This name justifies the coat of arms with the three lizards on the labels. Today, Olivier Coste works with his father, Bernard.

Olivier Coste's vineyard

Olivier Coste's terroir is located around the commune of Pézenas, in the Côtes de Thongue area. The vineyard covers 95 hectares, with plots surrounded by oak, olive and fig trees.

Olivier Coste's objective is zero carbon. Moreover, the farm finances ecological projects, aiming to offset its CO₂ emissions. The estate is conducted in integrated agriculture. The winemaker uses mechanical tools to weed, in order to avoid chemical inputs.

To replace pesticides, he uses pheromones that prevent pests from breeding on the vines. To lighten and nourish the soil, grape pomace is incorporated. Olivier Coste continually plants trees to preserve biodiversity. He claims over 2,000 trees planted to date.

Finally, to limit glass consumption, Olivier Coste uses lightweight eco-designed bottles, which consume far less energy.

Olivier Coste's wines

Olivier Coste offers a range of fresh, fruity and aromatic wines.

Rare White Carignan from the Languedoc Star range

Olivier Coste's Carignan Blanc Rare belongs to his Languedoc Star range. It is a Vin de France from Castelnau-de-Guers in the Hérault. The white Carignan that makes up this wine is a rare Mediterranean grape.

There are only 250 hectares of it left, mostly in Languedoc. Olivier Coste's comes from a 70 year old plot, planted on the seashore, on a limestone soil. Always concerned with preserving the grapes, the harvest is done at night, which prevents oxidation.

Olivier Coste's Carignan Blanc is an original, lively wine with lingering floral aromas on the palate. It displays some very appreciable mineral notes.

Cinsault Rouge from the Languedoc Star range

The Cinsault Rouge from Olivier Coste's Languedoc Star range is a wine from Valros, in the Hérault. It belongs to the IGP Pays d'Oc appellation. The Cinsault vines flourish on the part of the vineyard whose soil is composed of villafranchian pebbles.

Olivier Coste's Cinsault is an extremely fruity wine. Strawberry and cherry dominate and the spicy notes come a little later, to linger in the finish. It is an ideal wine to accompany Mediterranean cuisine. Its aromatic qualities are rich and are matched only by its freshness.
