Chateau Cicéron: an important cog in the AOC Corbières reputation


The estate owes its name to its first owners, who date back to Roman times. In the 1970s, Château Cicéron contributed to the development and current renown of the Corbières AOC, providing a testing ground for Maison Nicolas. Since 1999, the château has been part of Domaine Auriol, a grouping of several family-run wine estates. Founded by Claude Vialade, the Auriol estates are dedicated to promoting the wines of Occitanie.

Chateau Ciceron: a splendid landscape that hides a terroir of complex qualities


The Lagrasse terroir lies at the heart of a cirque carved out by the Orbieu river. It is partly sheltered by the Alaric mountain range, and does not suffer from the force of the "Cers" wind that blows regularly in Occitanie. The Mediterranean climate means that grapes ripen relatively late. The altitude of the plots, ranging from 100 to 150 meters, is beneficial to the vines during the region's intense summer heat.

The property's 20 hectares are cultivated on terraces. The vines are surrounded by garrigue and seem to be planted right on the rock. Many grape varieties have found their place on the Château Cicéron estate: syrah, merlot, grenache noir, grenache gris, grenache blanc, cinsault, carignan... They grow side by side on each plot as part of organic, environmentally-friendly, water-saving agriculture.

Chateau Cicéron creates experimental, avant-garde Corbières wines


Claude Vialade has created the Jardin des Vignes Rares in line with the experimental period of the 1970s. The soil is precisely analyzed on a few selected plots. This makes it possible to choose grape varieties adapted to the characteristics of the soil. The aim: to create a perfect alchemy between terroir and grape. The resulting wines are classified as IGP Pays d'Oc, as the winemakers voluntarily go beyond the criteria of the appellation and shake up the codes.

The estate's other wines, in red, rosé or white, are worthy representatives of the Corbières AOC, gourmet wines with good ageing potential.
