(21 customer reviews)
Domaine de Nerleux is located in the heart of the Loire Valley, in the Saumur region. It is one of the oldest estates in the region. Today, the ninth generation of winegrowers is at the helm, producing a wide variety of cuvées thanks to the diversity of the appellations in which the vineyards are planted. The estate's wines are the perfect expression of their terroir, made all the more so by the eco-responsible approach adopted by the company. Find out more

The winemaker

A timeless vineyard

As the owners like to say: the Domaine de Nerleux is rooted in history and looking to the future. Indeed, it remains anchored to its past, first and foremost by its name, which means "black wolves" in Old French, and attests to their presence in the region long before vines took over. It was in 1870 that Eugène Neau, the fourth generation of the family, acquired the estate and devoted himself body and soul to turning it into a top-quality house.

The estate was then passed down within the family, and today sees Amélie Neau, a member of the ninth generation, take over the running of the estate. It's not what she set out to do, but she couldn't resist the call of her roots and joined her parents in this adventure in 2010. She quickly made her mark and took over from her parents, continuing the family's work and maintaining the good image of the house.

The sustainable cultivation of an exceptional terroir

With its exceptional terroir, Domaine de Nerleux covers 30 hectares. Planted on tuffeau, a limestone typical of the region, the soil is particularly well-suited to vine-growing, retaining water and releasing it to the vines when they need it most.

The estate's grape varieties are mainly Cabernet France and Chenin, but new grape varieties have recently been introduced to the land to diversify the range of aromas in the wines. These include Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Grolleau.

What's more, since her arrival, Amélie Neau has introduced organic farming methods, a practice she holds dear to her heart. She has gone back to the basics of viticulture to ensure that the vines are managed with respect for the environment, which can only improve the quality of the harvest. The winemaking process follows the same model, respecting the fruit and its specific characteristics, while complying with the requirements that enable the wines to bear the Saumur-Champigny, Crémant de Loire or Coteaux de Saumur appellations.

A warm and rewarding welcome

Domaine de Nerleux upholds the values of sharing and conviviality. This is evident from the wealth of wine tourism on offer. Indeed, the Neau family welcomes you to their gîte and also offers tours of their cellars and vineyards, sometimes accompanied by treasure hunts that appeal to young and old alike. Last but not least, a new feature for 2020 is the opening of an escape game on the estate, accompanied by a tasting session.
