In a few words ...

Clos cibonne - tibouren - cuvée spéciale rouge 2020le clos cibonne is located in pradet, provence. The name refers to jean-baptiste de cibon, captain of the royal navy under louis xvi and former owner of the estate. Upon his death in 1797, the estate was sold to the ancestors of the roux family. Marius roux, born in 1850, inherited the estate from his mother. He contributed to its upkeep for many years, growing citrus fruits, flowers and a few acres of vines. In 1930, his son, André, took over the estate and, through his perseverance, laid the foundations for the notoriety of Clos Cibonne. Soon after, in 1935, he gave up growing flowers and citrus fruits to devote his life to the vine. It was during this period that he had the audacity to plant a very old grape variety that he would later re-cover: tibouren. His commitment enabled him to be compensated in 1955 by a ministerial decree classifying 18 estates, including Clos Cibonne, and authorizing winegrowers to use the appellation cru classé. On his death in 1989, andré roux left the estate to his daughter jacqueline who, with her husband emile mourchou, ran the estate for 15 years. For Emile, this return to the land was a new challenge. At the age of 60, he put all his energy into restructuring the estate by buying back land, replanting with tibouren and building a new cellar to meet the needs of modern viticulture. In 2003, his daughter Brigitte and son-in-law Claude Deforges took over the estate. The vineyard is run according to the principles of sustainable agriculture. The special red cuvée is a blend of tibouren (90%) and grenache (10%) from plots of tibouren that are on average 20 years old. The bunches of grapes are harvested with good ripeness, then destemmed before being vinified in stainless steel vats. For ten days or so, two pump-overs a day are carried out to homogenize the vat and encourage the diffusion of the phenolic compounds and aromatics. The wine is aged for 4-6 months in foudres.cépages : 90% tibouren, 10% grenache
