Domaine de la Madrague
(2 customer reviews)
The reputation of the Domaine de la Madrague is well known in the world of organic wines. It is a unique and welcoming wine estate, completely renovated after having been neglected for several years. It extends over the communes of Gassin and La Croix Valmer, on the peninsula of Saint Tropez.
Bought in 2007 by Jean Marie Zodo, the estate had indeed fallen into disuse, but its potential was just waiting to be revived. Important works were engaged and the domain was immediately relaunched in organic farming. Find out more

The winemaker
A committed viticulture
The cultivation techniques and work in the winery are conducted in strict compliance with the requirements of the organic label, controlled by Ecocert. The only treatments used are natural, the teams use exclusively copper and sulfur, authorized by the label. The rows are grassed to limit erosion.
The implementation of these methods allows a rich microbial life and promotes a natural balance of ecosystems, guaranteeing not only the obtaining of grapes and therefore wines of beautiful quality, but also preserving the terroirs in the long term.
In addition, La Madrague is committed to a strong reduction of sulfites present in its wines well before the new regulations requiring their reduction. As a result, it offers vintages with nearly half the sulfites than the limits imposed by organic wine certifications.
Work in the winery
La Madrague works with a personalized approach for each vintage, using sometimes atypical methods.
In the facilities, a tuns and barrels room has been installed behind the tasting cellar. It is in this uncluttered place, that the vintages are sheltered, each benefiting from its own conditions of maturation and vinification.
Thus the Charlotte cuvées are aged for 12 months in foudre while the Claire cuvées remain for 12 months in demi-muids from several cooperages allowing then a subtle blend of each.
The César and Charles cuvées are made from grapes grown according to the most traditional methods and with care respecting the principles of Biodynamics and taking into account the influence of the moon.
The red wines of the Cuvée César then benefit from a two-stage vinification, first in wooden vats, then for 12 months in terracotta amphorae.
The Charles cuvées are vinified for their part in a sandstone egg.
The critically acclaimed wines
The Madrague wines have become safe values in the region's wine world. Its vintages have moreover received prestigious distinctions: a silver medal at the Paris general competition and a gold medal at the Mâcon competition for the Claire rosé, a gold medal at the Paris competition for the Claire white, two gold medals in Brussels and Paris for the Charlotte rosé.
