The winemaker

The Producer

Chateau La Canorgue has been in the same family for 200 years and five generations of winemakers have succeeded each other to make it the winery it is today.

The current owners, Jean Pierre and Martine Margan, took over the almost abandoned estate in 1970 after the sudden death of Martine's father. With the exception of one hectare of old vines, the entire estate had to be refurbished and modernized, from the plots to the storage and tasting buildings to the cellar.

This hard work has led Chateau La Canorgue to excellence and its wines have received numerous awards. The first came in 1979, at the Concours Général Agricole de Paris where the estate received the gold medal. Numerous other awards followed until Jean Pierre Margan was named "best winemaker". Today he works with his daughter, Nathalie. She is the fifth generation of winemakers in the family.

Pioneers in organic farming since 1970

Located in the heart of an exceptional nature in the Luberon, the initial choice has always been to produce great wines with respect for the land and the environment. For 50 years, the estate has been operated in organic agriculture and applies the principles of Biodynamics. The only products used are old-fashioned treatments and plant decoctions. No chemical products are used.

The methods implemented at Chateau La Canorgue are certified by Ecocert and regularly controlled, which allows the wines of the estate to benefit from the Organic Agriculture and Wine label. It is also the first wine estate in Luberon to receive the Organic Agriculture certification. Benefiting from the most modern equipment and traditional know-how, the wines of the estate are simply exceptional products.

The grape varieties and wines of Château La Canorgue

One finds in the domain, the classic grape varieties of the Rhone and the Mediterranean in the AOP Luberon: Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, Viognier, Cinsault, Vermentino, Bourboulenc, Roussanne. But the Margan family has also made the bold choice to plant varieties less common in the region such as Cabernet, Merlot or Gamay.

Château La Canorgue can thus produce local wines with the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication of the Mediterranean). The will is deliberately to privilege small yields to obtain an exceptional quality.

The vineyard's offer is both rich and varied, with six cuvées of red wines, two of white and one of rosé, produced in limited quantities to guarantee the use of the best grapes.
