An exceptional cuvée, "garance" comes from the 2 oldest Syrah plots in the Costières-de-Nîmes appellation, planted in 1955. It's a powerful, concentrated wine that needs a few years to develop its full aromatic range. Although it would benefit from a few more years, the 2017 vintage of the estate's flagship cuvée is already showing its full potential. The garnet-red color is deep, the nose clearly dominated by black fruits, and the mouth benefits from tannins that are still highly concentrated. The toasty notes on the finish reflect the ageing process, but are accompanied by the freshness characteristic of Valcombe wines. 100% Syrah. Vines planted in 1955. 2 south-facing plots on hillsides. Soils of 4 to 20 m of Rhone pebbles, with a very fine layer of limestone in the subsoil. Only a few thousand bottles produced each year. Aged 15 months in French oak barrels (300l), then a minimum of 2 years in bottle. Aged for 15 years.
