The history of Domaine de la Pigeade


Domaine de la Pigeade was founded in the early 1960s by Nicole and Claude Vaute, who settled in a 16th-century building nestled in a sumptuous green setting. The vineyards are located in the heart of Provence and the Rhône Valley. Each of the couple came from a farming family, but this was their first experience as winemakers. They set about developing Domaine de la Pigeade, focusing on a still young appellation: Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. However, the Vaute couple left the vinification of their grapes to the Beaumes lès Venise village cooperative.

The Domaine de la Pigeade vineyard


Located in the French department of Vaucluse, the vineyards of Domaine de la Pigeade benefit from the warm temperate climate of the Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur region. The influence of the nearby Mediterranean can be felt, with hot summers and relatively mild winters. Domaine de la Pigeade is now run by the son of the founders, Thierry, with his wife Marina. Today, the vineyard comprises over 30 hectares, still planted mainly with Muscat. The vines grow on hillsides at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, just a few kilometers from Mont Ventoux and the Luberon.

The new owners have since built their own winery, the first vintage of which was extracted in 1996. Domaine de la Pigeade is run in the most natural way possible, with a view to preserving the environment. Mechanical work in the vineyard is preferred. The grapes are harvested by hand, in 30-kilo crates. The bunches are then systematically sorted on a sorting table, then completely destemmed.

Domaine de la Pigeade produces wines of the three robes, belonging to four prestigious appellations: Muscat de Beaumes de Venise, Vacqueyras, AOC Ventoux and Vin de Pays de Vaucluse.
