The winemaker

The Domaine de Mourchon is the brainchild of a Scottish family

The McKinlay family is of Scottish origin. When they decided to add a Vacqueyras to their restaurant menu, they were seduced by the finesse of this wine from the southern Côtes du Rhône. That was all it took for them to decide to change their lives and buy the Domaine de Mourchon in 1988. The plan was to retire to the tranquility of the South of France, but the call of business was too strong. Walter and Ronnie decided to take over the winery, which at the time comprised 20 hectares of old vines, but no facilities. Joined by their daughter Kate, son-in-law and grandchildren, the McKinlay family chose to put their trust in the terroir and the wines it could produce. In 2000, their winery was equipped with all the latest technology and ready for operation.

The Domaine de Mourchon is cultivated with respect for the earth

Today, the estate covers 35 hectares situated on a hillside at an altitude of 350 meters. The soil is composed mainly of clay and limestone, and the region benefits from a microclimate that enables the production of quality wines. The estate's four grape varieties (Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan) are grown using traditional winemaking methods. Currently undergoing conversion to organic farming, the estate adopts a low-yield, chemical-free method with hand-picked grapes.

The Domaine de Mourchon delivers on the promise of Séguret wines

Aging in concrete vats or oak barrels for the oldest plots lasts 18 months to two years, depending on the cuvée. The wines are Côtes-du-Rhône, or Côtes-du-Rhône-Villages-Séguret, a local appellation that has greatly benefited from Domaine de Mourchon's success. These wines, rich in fruit aromas, are exceptionally pure. Finally, vines aged between 60 and 80 years produce a rich, elegant wine in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
