The winemaker

1768, a date carved on the molasse stone at the entrance to the cellar; the vaulted cellars, dug into the basements, bear witness to the rich past of this family home. Here, each generation has lived off the land and the vines. These vines, planted in the most stony and aerated soils, were used, depending on the period, to make wine for family consumption, sell wine to merchants or sell grapes to the cooperative cellar. In 1998, after studying oenology, Luc took up the torch and created "Domaine du Murinais", the old name of the winery's location. In 1998, the winery was designed to be both modern and respectful of tradition. The cellar was designed to bring the grapes by gravity into the concrete vats for long maceration. Each parcel will be vinified separately to bring out the full aromatic and structural potential of each terroir. The wines can then benefit from the old underground cellars to mature in vats or in demi-muits. Today, Domaine du Murinais, run by Luc Tardy and his wife Catherine, has 17 hectares of vines in the Crozes Hermitage appellation. All the vines are cultivated in such a way as to respect the soil and nature. The soils are ploughed, ridged and hoeed by hand. Vine diseases are controlled by prophylactic measures such as leaf thinning and de-leafing. Harvesting is manual, with selective sorting in the vineyard and then in the cellar.
