The winemaker

It was in the early 2000s that Julien Masquin took over a few parcels of vines leased by his grandfather. Located on the most emblematic terroirs of the Châteauneuf du Pape cru (Rayas, Bédines, Cassanets). Aware of the property's exceptional potential, this sportsman, freshly graduated in oenology and always ready for a challenge, took a leap into the unknown by founding Domaine Julien Masquin in 1999. The road ahead was long and difficult, and the vines needed meticulous care to revive and reveal their true potential. It took ten years of hard work to restructure the vines. Julien worked alone for two years before crossing paths with Sébastien, who is now his right-hand man. Thus began both a professional collaboration and a deep friendship. The natural balance of the Julien Masquin estate is rooted in respect for the soil and terroir, and in constant learning. For Julien and Sébastien, listening to nature and observing the plant are paramount, as their aim is to accompany them in all humility in order to draw out the quintessence of the terroir. Breaking free from the dictates of organic farming, they have chosen to return to a reasonable, reasoned approach to agriculture based on ancestral knowledge, accompanied by modern techniques. This vision makes it possible to obtain small, high-quality volumes. The domaine's motto: great grapes for great wines. Since 2021, the estate has been certified HVE3 "Domaine à haute valeur environnementale". Accept what the vines are willing to give each year and remain humble in the face of nature. That's the watchword. Continuing their reflection on the evolution of the estate, Julien and Sébastien have opted for parcel-based work to reveal the full potential of their patiently cultivated vines. The importance of meticulous, thoughtful cellar work is confirmed. The result is Domaine Julien Masquin, modern wines born of ancestral know-how, with finesse and elegance.
