The winemaker

énéficiant a Mediterranean climate very sunny all year, our domain also benefit of freshness provided by the Massif Central near. Our vineyards are located on hillsides at an ideal high altitude, about 250 meters above sea level. The terroir Domaine Lyra is composed mainly of stony clay and limestone soils, typical of the Côtes du Rhône. The estate produces mainly red wine. The cultivated varieties are those traditionally used for wine appellation of Côtes du Rhône: Syrah (40%), Grenache (40%), Carignan (10%), Cinsault (10%). For the production of white wine, we grow a few hectares of Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Ugni Blanc and Roussanne. The entire vineyard began his conversion to organic farming in 2009, certified by Ecocert. The estate is run by Philip Mathias, wine specialist organic viticulture and grape varieties typical of the South of France, in particular the Syrah and Grenache. He is helped in his daily tasks by Sylvain, a native winemaker local terroir. Our grapes are harvested only at optimal maturity and vinified in cement tanks. All our grapes are de-stemmed before vatting, which lasts about twenty days. During fermentation, we perform many pumping to extract a maximum of aromas, color and structure. Aging lasts a few months before bottling, which takes place usually in May. With our harvest at optimal maturity, the Domaine wine is a rich wine with expressive aromas with round tannins and fine The village of Pouzilhac is located on the old Roman road between Nimes at Albas in Ardeche, whose route is taken by the current National Road 86. The first official documentary evidence of viticulture in the village date back to the seventeenth century. Domaine Lyra takes its name from the old portal giving access to the area, dating from the nineteenth century, which included an impressive Lyre iron forged on the entrance gate. Nowadays, this Lyre no longer exists, the portal having been removed in the twentieth century when the area was growing.
