The winemaker

Castle Mayragues, surrounded by vineyards, in the middle of a hilly and wooded landscape, is situated on the slopes of the right bank of the Tarn near the forest of Grésigne. It is 10 km north of Gaillac, 25 kms west of Albi and 60 km northeast of Toulouse. The walled town of Castelnau de Montmiral is 5 kms. In 1609, the area was divided between vineyards, meadows and woods as evidenced by the archives. So we can say that we cultivate the vine Mayragues for at least 400 years. The discovery of fragments of Roman pottery and other remains suggest the possibility of the presence of the vine Mayragues since Roman times, when the Romans established the vineyards of Gaillac. Very largely dominated soil carbonates / limestone (the formwork land) with more clay areas (marl) and a former zone of colluvial probably associated with a former river leading to a small valley to the west. Systemic exposure of the vineyards gives to the southwest. The climate in Gaillac, although continental, has influences from the Atlantic Ocean (wet sweetness) and the Mediterranean (dry heat). Mayragues enjoys a microclimate, bénificiant some cool summer nights, due to the proximity of Grésigne forest.
