The winemaker

By 1290, it is the Prayssac Jouffreau which were land, laborers, merchants. In 1450, we find in the valley of Bélaye, the bend of the bottom of Prayssac of fields and vineyards: Clos de Gamot belongs to this land. In 1610, the Family Jouffreau built in the vineyards the house that still houses its descendants. Through the centuries, the Jouffreau Family Clos de Gamot, works the vineyard, wine and student lives with the hours of glory or misery of Cahors wine. The trouble came in 1882 by the phylloxera began attacking the vineyard of Clos de Gamot. The vine dies. William Jouffreau then on exploitation fee during the 1883-1884 winters, Malbec the last branches of a few preserved vines and trying several grafts. This Malbec on the rootstock Herbemont succeeds! These new plants are resistant to phylloxera Guillaume Jouffreau just saved the vineyard of Clos de Gamot but all of Cahors vineyards will be planted in large part to clones from the vineyards of Clos de Gamot.
