The winemaker

In 1377, when Gregory XI moved the papal see from Avignon to Rome, some French families followed to Italy; one of them, no doubt for simplicity's sake, began to be called "Avignonesi". The winery is named after the Avignonesi family historians who founded the estate. Constant research and development, aimed at expressing the essence of the Montepulciano terroir, has over time earned Avignonesi a well-deserved place among Tuscany's most representative vineyards. Since 2009 Avignonesi has introduced organic farming methods with the aim of creating distinctive wines with an authentic and even more defined character. Avignon believes that the life force of the earth and the character of the land are the essence of wine. The wines reflect the subtle differences in each growing site and express the richness and beauty of Montepulciano and Cortona territory. Avignon respects the innate character of each wine and makes the path from soil to cellar to bottle as natural as possible. Avignonesi consists of four production units: Le Capezzine, je Poggetti, La Selva and La Lombarda, 225 hectares, including 109 ha of vineyards and olive groves.
