Nicolas joly - les vieux clos 2018the domaine nicolas joly is located in the savennières appellation, in the loire valley. Nicolas joly began his career in finance in the u.s. and u.k. before returning to his native village of savenni in 1977 to run his parents' vineyard. From 1980, he converted the vineyards to biodynamic viticulture, obtaining certification in 1985. Today, the vineyard is managed by nicolas' daughter virginie, and produces grapes for the 7-hectare monopole clos de la coulée de serrant, the estate's flagship wine. However, as a result of disputes with interloire (the loire region's promotional body), coulée de serrant may no longer appear on official val de loire appellation maps. le vieux clos is the second wine of domaine nicolas joly. It is a white Chenin whose vines have been cultivated for some twenty years, using massal selections. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 6-8 months: 100% chenin blanc.
